And Thennnn....I Turned 29.....

Howdy friends.

How ya doing today?

I hope life is treating you kindly.

Well, today is actually my 29th birthday.

Yes, I was born January 22, 1984.

Super Bowl Sunday that year.

This past Saturday the hubs took off work, and we decided to head out for a little fun.

That afternoon, I made the decision to try out a new hair salon in mid-town.

It's at the corner of Madison and Cooper.

Ariel was my stylist...and she did a great job.

 Annnnddd after:

Sorry it's blurry. :( my camera on my phone is awful.

Now granted, I have more makeup on in the second picture and my hair is curled.

But, I think she did a great job.

She added some side bangs, and I think they make just the right amount of difference.

I had my hair colored Friday at another salon because Dabbles couldn't get me in for both a color and a cut.

So, I'm a little more auburn than normal.

And I like that, too. :)

I definitely recommend Dabbles. It's so laid back in there...the staff was super friendly...and the decor is funky and very mid-town-ish. :)

Anywho, here's a little pic recap from the evening:

When I came home from the salon, the hubs had roses, a sweet card, and Muddy's cupcakes waiting for me.  Aw. :)

The hubs informed that he had planned on having both of my diplomas framed for me. However, my master's diploma has yet to come in yet...so he wasn't able to. Still, such a thoughtful gift. Can't wait to help pick out frames!

Remember, black is my favorite color. :) Blazer: Macy's Style & Co., Dress: Gap from a billion years ago, Necklace: Premier Jewelry, Shoes: INC from Macy's

Hubs. Looking pretty darn handsome.

We decided to have dinner at Ruth Chris's steakhouse. We had a gift card there...and we really enjoyed ourselves the last time we visited. So it was a no brainer. When we walked in, the hostess wished me "Happy Birthday!" I thought, "Oh that was sweet." When we were sat, there was a personalized hand-written card for me on the table. How cool! It was a nice touch for sure.

Annnnnddd they had confetti on the table as well. Awesomeness!

The birthday surprises didn't stop there....they also  shared this really awesome dessert. On the house. Boom.

I would most definitely recommend them if you are having a birthday. They truly make you feel so special!!

After that, we headed to the hubs' place of employment for a few after dinner cocktails.

Of course, I had the bright idea to go to Raiford's.

Oh lawd.

After much debate (within myself I might add) we decided to grab a cab and head downtown.

Don't let this pic fool you. Raiford's seems like a magical wonderland of fun.

However, I'm not sure I've ever met anyone who said the next day after visiting, "Wow, that was the best night of my life!"
However, from the pics below, all seems well, right?!

Well, those good times were all wiped away when I woke up Sunday morning with what appears to be a sprained left wrist. From falling. Down.

So yea. I'm hoping that by the time I turn 30, I'll have gained all the wisdom needed to NEVER again go to Raiford's.

When I arrived at work yesterday, my sweet co-worker Savannah (who has started her own blog!...check it out here friends!) had birthday cake fudge waiting for me.

Heavens to Betsey. This fudge is amazing. I would liken it to crack cocaine...however, I've never actually tried crack cocaine...so we'll just say it's pretty much addicting.

This morning, I had a phone call from my brother wishing me a "Happy Birthday." We talked a for a little while, and about 10 minutes after hanging up with him...he surprised me at my door with cupcakes and a nice (minus the "Go Cats" part) note. I was so surprised! He was in town for work today, and came on by. I had no idea! It was truly such a thoughtful thing to do.

So yea, I've had a pretty great birthday...minus the whole sprained wrist thing (which I might add is ridiculously painful.)

But, I am so grateful for all the birthday love.

I've honestly been dreading 29. I'm so happy for every single moment I'm given here. However, there's something about the realization that this is the last year of my 20s that is scary. I'm not so much dreading 30 because it's a new beginning. But closing the chapter on my 20s is something I wasn't quite prepared for yet.

Oh well.

Here's to 29! I hope it's the best one yet.

Much love, ;)

So, I Got Nominated....

Hiya friends!

Well, I am quite humbled today.

Well, I was so graciously nominated for a Liebster Award by Laura at Walking in Memphis in High Heels annnnddd by Rachel at Front Row Seat!

The Liebster Blog Award is an award given by bloggers to up and coming bloggers who have less than 200 followers. It's to show new bloggers that they are appreciated, and to help spread the word about new blogs. It was created to promote appreciation and recognition among the blog world. Liebster translates to "dearest" (or favorite/best) in German. It is also known as the Love Blog Award.

First, of all, thank you both Laura and Rachel!

I encourage all of y'all to check out their blogs as well!! They are the bomb.com.

Anywho, here are the rules of the Liebster Award:

The Rules:
1. You must post 11 random things about yourself.
2.  Answer the questions that the nominator set for you.
3.   Create 11 questions for the people you nominate.
4.  Choose 11 blogs you love (with less than 200 followers) and link them in your post.
5.  No tag back (but please leave me a comment on this post with the URL to your Liebster post so I can learn more about you)!

Soooo...here we go!

11 Random things about myself:
1. If I could have a dream job, I really think it'd be as a cast regular on Saturday Night Live.
2. I can pretty much quote every line from both "My Best Friend's Wedding" and "Steel Magnolias."
3. I'm obsessed with the idea of living in a house one day with a big front porch and a porch swing.
4. I love to go estate sale shopping.
5. Tulips are my favorite flower.

7. If it's monogrammed, I love it.
8. I speak melodically many times throughout my day.
9. Both of my middle fingers are crooked.
10. My dream home is the one lived in by Diane Keaton in "Something's Gotta Give." Perfection.
11. My go to karaoke song is Nora Jones', "Don't Know Why."

Here are the questions given to me by Laura:
1.  What is your favorite color?
I would say black. I know...weird. But I think black is classy and timeless!

2.  Why did you start blogging and how long have you been doing it?
Well, I started blogging back in 2007. I had a blog called “Ruthie’s Revelations.” Ruth is my middle name and I have several friends that call me that every now and then. When I got engaged, I decided to quit blogging under that blog name, and to blog solely about my wedding planning process. So, then I created a blog, “Always A Bridesmaid…Now A Bride” to document my wedding planning. Alas, I did not keep it up. A few months after I got married, my friend Ellen started a blog…and it got me thinking, “Hey, you could get back to blogging, too!” So I did. And that’s when “Mrs. in Memphis” was created!

3.  What do you do for a living?
I am an outpatient therapist working with individuals who are dealing with drug, alcohol, and/or mental health issues.

4.  If you could live anywhere, where would it be?
Chicago. Hands down my favorite city.

5.  Dogs or cats?
Dogs. I believe cats are plotting to kill you at all times.

6.  What are your favorite hobbies?
Honestly, I am working on hobbies. I guess running? I know this is cheese fest, but spending time with my husband could be a hobby. Or maybe being a “foodie?” Does that count? Sure it does….haha.

7.  What did you want to be when you grew up as a child?
A meteorologist. I swear, I would sit and watch The Weather Channel for hours! I was this close to heading out to tour the University of Oklahoma my senior year of high school. But then I realized how good at math you have to be to do that work. And lemme just say, I am in no way good at math.

8.  What is your favorite food?
Pete & Sam’s lasagna. It will change your life.

9.  What is your go-to outfit that you end up wearing most?
Black blazer, white or black t-shirt underneath, skinny blue jeans, Tory Burch Reva flats.

10.  Flats or heels?
I actually love heels. But not to wear all day.

11.  What's your favorite indulgence (whether it be soap operas, desserts or pedicures)?
Probably a pedicure and shellac mani done by the amazing people at Splendid Nails at Mendenhall and Park (right next to the Sports Pub). They are the best!

And here are the questions given to me by Rachel:
1. What's the #1 played song on your iPod?
1. Hmmm….I am not sure since I haven’t played my iPod in a while. I will say that while I was half-marathon training, I got addicted to the 90’s station on Slacker radio on my phone. Amazing-ness!

2. If you won the lottery, what's the first thing you would do?
Pay off my student loans. Boring, I know.

3. If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
Speak Spanish fluently.

4. If you knew the world was ending in 2012, what would you do differently?
Well, since it didn’t…haha I suppose the possibility always exists for it to end at any given moment….so I guess what I would do differently would be...slower to speak and quick to listen.

5. When you have 30 minutes of free-time, how do you pass the time?
I catch up on my Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook feeds. Ridiculous, I know.

6. What was the last movie, TV show, or book that made you cry or tear up?
Silver Linings Playbook

7. What was the first thing you bought with your own money?
Oh wow. I am pretty sure it was clothing related…I’ve been working since I was 15 years old. It’s hard to delve that far back!

8. What's the best/worst gift you've ever given/received?
I would say the 5th anniversary trip to Chicago given to me by the hubs. Little did I know that would be our engagement trip!

9. When was the last time you were nervous?
Um, yesterday. I conducted my first group session on my own at my new place of employment. Barf-a-roni!

10. What's the hardest thing you've ever done?
Wow. This is a toughie. Perhaps only my grad school co-horts will understand, but taking Dr. Priest and Dr. James in the same semester…the semester before I got married…was pretty ridiculous.

11. What is something that you've learned within the past week?
How awesome my new co-workers are! They have been so supportive, and I appreciate everything they've done for me!

So now that you know a little about me, I'm gonna pass the baton over to these 11 bloggers:

(If you've already been nominated, then please don't feel obligated to do it again...I'm just showing you some love!)

2. Rachel at Front Row Seat
6. Courtney at exodus31three

6. What's your favorite scent?
7. Traditional or modern?
8. If you had to be trapped in an elevator with anyone, who would it be?
9. What's your favorite thing about yourself?
10. When was the first time you thought, "Now THIS is love!"
11. What's is your favorite outfit that you've ever worn?

Thanks for sticking with me this long friends....and for showing me some love.

Love y'all right back.

Much love, ;)

Back To The Grind....

Hiya friends.

Hope this past week has been treating you kindly.

I have been busy training at my new job.

I've had a really AMAZING person training me, so I feel so happy in that regard.

However, I still have my brown paper bag on standby in case I have a meltdown.

So yea.

I think I'm really going to like it there.

But, it's still a little nerve-wracking being the newbie.

At least my coworkers are the bomb.com and have made me feel so very welcome!

I am working with my dear friend Ellen again, who if you'll remember I blogged about her husband being sick in the hospital and her being super pregnant....

Well, this past week she had sweet Nora Kate.

We are so excited!

Mommy and baby are doing well.

Speaking of doing well...

I am trying hard to eat at least one salad per day.

Well, at least one per weekday.

So, I used this Pinterest idea!

And here's how mine turned out:

They've worked like a charm!

So good and so easy to reach for each day.

The set up was kind of a pain, but it took about 30 minutes to fix 5 salads.

Not too shabby.

You just have to chop up whatever veggies you need and voila!

Definitely going to try to keep this up.

Something I've not kept up with is....running.

I feel awful about it, too.

I could use the excuse that I've been trying to get adjusted to my new work schedule, but that doesn't matter.

I've just got to commit to doing better.

And I'm debating whether or not just to run 5ks and then run the St. Jude half again in December.

I wanted to run the Germantown Half...but honestly, I'm sort of scared to train on my own.

Running long runs on my own is lonely.

So, I dunno.

Either way I'm going to run a half this year.

I might run the Dash for Dad half on April 27.

I've just got to figure it out!

Either way I gotta keep running.

I'm also about to try out a new gym since I can't workout on campus anymore... :(

I've got a 2 week trial membership to DAC fitness in Laurelwood.

Does anyone know anything about that location?

It's just really close to my work and my home...sooooo we'll see.

How do y'all keep motivated??

Maybe I need to buy a swimsuit to keep me out there...

Hey, you can pick up one at Target now!

Ugh. Seriously??? It's still January Target. C'MONN.

So, I went to Old Navy tonight.

Big mistake.

I seriously could have bought every single item in there right now.

Yes, some of it's boring.

But I love all the colors they are sporting!

I'm sort of obsessed with green lately.

Mint green.

Prep green.

Emerald green.

Love it all.

And anything with polka dots gets my vote.

Speaking of love...

I loved when I was sporting an auburn hue on my head.

Annndd....I'm making an appointment to have my hair done (hopefully) next Friday.

Should I go back to auburn??

Last Winter.
Or how about one of these reddish colors:

Cinnamon highlights?

This pretty dark Strawberry?

Or a a brighter auburn?

Or should I be bold and try ombre??

One thing's for certain, I'm not losing any length.

I soooo want Kardashian-esque length hair.

Ugh. Gotta keep taking Biotin and pre-natal vitamins to get there.

Kim might be rethinking that hair length once baby Westkardashian is born!

What's going on with y'all?

Hey Laura at Walking in Memphis in High Heels...I promise to try to work on your Liebster Award challenge!

You are awesome for tagging me.

And friends, go visit her blog!

She is freaking adorable.

And I love supporting Memphis bloggers!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend friends!

Much love, :)

Ringing In The New Year....

Hi friends.

I hope that you all had a wonderful New Year's Eve!

Mine was spend with some dear friends at the hubs' place of employment.

Throughout years past, I've always loved dressing up and going out for New Year's Eve.

I bought this dress a few months ago from Forever 21. This dress was sort of a risk for me. Curvy girls + sequins can lead to a WHOLE lotta sparkle sometimes. So even though I love anything with sequins, sometimes I shy away from buying and/or wearing them because...well...like I said...it can lead to a WHOLE lotta sparkle. But, I decided to pair it with a blazer I snapped up at Macy's the other day, and I think it turned out ok. The shoes were a purchase from Macy's at the end of summer. I love them!

Hubs. Wore a hat = gash on head hidden....but seizures induced by his strobe light hat. Haha.
I actually really like the above pic of the hubs. Oh the powers of Instagram.

Hanging with our best friends The Hursts!

She had a great year...remember she got to the guy in the pic above! :)

Literally all of my friends (minus Taylor in the middle haha) Instagramming. Haha!

Love this girl. So glad we could spend the evening together...just like last year!
Then these beautiful ladies showed up and the sparkle trio was complete. :) And thennnn, Josh photobombed us. Haha.
All bandaged up. Ringing in the new year.

I hope you all had a safe and wonderful time last night.

While I loved dressing up, I think I've just about decided that next year I'd like to stay in....snuggled with Baxter...with pjs on.

Guess I'm just getting old.

Right now, I've got my black eyed peas in a crockpot, pork chops in another crock pot, a cafe Mocha in my hand from my new Keurig, and the SVU marathon on.

I'm also debating whether or not to take down all my holiday decor.

I really don't want to take it down...I get really sad when it's time to put everything away!

So, maybe, I'll take the day to just be lazy and enjoy the decorations until the weekend.

Because tomorrow is my first day at my new job!

Gotta be honest....I'm nervous.

But, I'm also just ready to start the process and my new journey!

What new journeys are you beginning this week friends?

Much love, ;)
